Week 7 ~ Corona Virus and Anxiety

As the corona virus has been a big talk throughout the world, many patients have been worried. Corona virus, also known as COVID-19, is a common cause of colds and other upper respiratory infections. Anxiety was a big medical issue I saw this week during my internship because of this virus. There was even a patient who was telling Crystal, Dr. Larison, and I about some statistics involved with the virus. They talked about how they think it is crazy that the flu is killing so many more people; yet, the economy is downward spiraling with corona virus spreading. The patient was also telling us about how the U.S. is cutting off flights to and from Europe.

On Tuesday there was a patient that had came in the previous weeks with fluid in their ears. When this patient came back, Crystal checked their ears which now had no fluid; however, the patient had a lot of congestion, so Crystal sent them to an ear, nose, and throat doctor. Two patients came in with anxiety; Crystal prescribed a medication for both. The first patient works two jobs and one of them causes major anxiety. Knowing this, Crystal told the patients to work less days out of the month for that specific job that cases anxiety. The second patient with anxiety had major weight loss. The patient admitted to being addicted to pot but is now in recovery. Crystal prescribed a medication for the anxiety.

Wednesday was a slower day but I saw two patents with upper respiratory infection. This caused a lot of congestion and a bad cough for both patients. Th first patient I saw of the day Crystal let me listen to there breathing. The exhale was extremely raspy and it was obvious there was a lot of congestion.

Right when I arrived on Thurday we saw a patient that needed a med refill on adderall. The next patient was very congested; this turned into Crystal finding out that the patient had anxiety. Crystal prescribed a medication for this and told the patient to take it for a few months. The last patient of the day had been suffering from migraines for years. The day before they had seen a neurologist, but still woke up with a terrible migraine. Crystal prescribed some medication and had the nurses give the patient a shot.
